EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP

Sarita James

Chief Executive Officer

Sarita James is Embark’s Chief Executive Officer, responsible for management of the company with a focus on growth. Prior to Embark, Sarita held executive roles at Citigroup, including Chief Operating Officer of Citi Ventures. She has experience building software at Microsoft Corporation where she received two patents and advising technology companies as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Sarita has a passion for education and the public sector. Under the Obama administration, she served as a White House Fellow and Acting Branch Chief of the Small Business Administration’s Microloan program. During Mayor Bloomberg’s second term, she ran the Strategy and Policy division for New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Sarita received a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard College and her M.B.A. from Oxford University’s Said Business School.

Michael Turbé

Director of Engineering

Michael is Embark’s Director of Engineering, responsible for day to day leadership of the development team. He focuses on architecture, performance, code quality, and scalability.

Over the last 17 years, Michael has led teams of developers through the full software development cycle in the legal, financial services, energy, and educational technology fields. Michael was a Vice President of Equities at fintech firm Markit in the years prior to its 2014 IPO. Michael has spent the last several years as a consultant, learning the value of continuous learning. In his spare time, Michael is also an accomplished music blogger; his writing was published in Best Music Writing 2011.

Michael has a BA in Digital Media from Fordham University and a MS in Computer Science from Pace University.

Devyn Gardner

VP of Partnerships

Devyn Gardner serves as Embark's VP of Partnerships. She works closely with Embark's partner organizations and helps Embark’s clients map out their online admissions solutions. She brings three years of experience with our implementation and support teams to this role.

Prior to Embark, Devyn worked at Minnesota Life College, a not-for profit vocational program for young adults with ASD or other learning differences. Additionally, she has worked in U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's office where she acted as a liaison between constituents and government agencies in resolving matters involving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and Immigration.

Originally from Minnesota, Devyn loves spending time outdoors, preferably on a golf course or by a lake.

Devyn received a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College.

Adam Freilich

Software and Data Science Engineer

Adam Freilich is a Software and Data Science Engineer at Embark. One of Adam's larger projects has been creating personalized financial recommendations for students and families using Embark’s College Cents service.

Before joining Embark, Adam was completing Computational Learning Theory research at Columbia University. He was also a teaching assistant for graduate coursework.

Outside of work, Adam spends time cooking and fermenting vegetables and playing the acoustic guitar. Adam is also interested in computer graphics and non-photorealistic rendering, through which software can be used to create painting styles such as watercolor.

Adam received a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Computer Science at Columbia University.

Rosario Torres

College Cents Counselor

As a counselor for College Cents, Rosario provides guidance about paying for college to both students and parents via video sessions.

Rosario brings research experience through her work at a non-partisan social policy research organization where she focuses on college access, persistence and success for low-income and underrepresented students.

Rosario has held roles in K-12 and higher education as a financial aid officer and college admissions counselor, and was a Graduate Fellow at the Kresge Foundation.

Rosario also worked at the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good where she managed projects related to college access and leadership development in diversity, equity and inclusion.

Rosario earned her B.A. in English Education and Chicano Latino Studies from California State University, Long Beach and her M.A in Higher Education from the University of Michigan.

Wellington Fragoso

Software and Product Engineer

Wellington Fragoso is a Product Engineer at Embark. He contributes to full stack feature development and also helps map out the user experience for new features.

Prior to Embark, Wellington completed training in software development at App Academy, a top-ranked engineering bootcamp in New York. After graduating, Wellington worked for Capital One Bank, where he led a team as a NYC branch manager. In this role, he cultivated relationships with clients and advised them with their financial planning.

Outside of work, Wellington spends most of his time outdoors and enjoys adventure sports. He has hiked part of the Adirondack Trail and recently took his first skydiving trips. Wellington has been a television actor and enjoys comedic roles in particular. He has also volunteered with the NYPD Explorers program, a law enforcement-based program that helps build ties between communities and the police.

Wellington received a B.A. in Biochemistry from Hunter College.

Charvi Gopal

Software Engineering Intern

Charvi is excited to be a Software Engineering Intern with Embark. In this role, her main project has been internationalization of Embark Campus for the Asia region.

Outside of Embark, Charvi is a rising junior at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During her freshman year, as a research assistant with MIT's Teaching Systems Lab, she designed segments of a teacher-training simulation. During the winter of her sophomore year, she co-developed an internal tool for a Boston-based AI education technology startup.

Charvi has grown up in four countries and enjoys roaming the outdoors while birdwatching. At MIT, she explored several rivers while coxing boats with the women’s varsity crew team during her freshman year. She has been a teaching fellow with MIT’s environmental first-year learning community Terrascope.

Charvi is studying towards a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT in 2021 with a concentration in Comparative Media Studies.
