Chief Executive Officer

Sarita James is Embark’s Chief Executive Officer, responsible for management of the company with a focus on growth. Prior to Embark, Sarita held executive roles at Citigroup, including Chief Operating Officer of Citi Ventures. She has experience building software at Microsoft Corporation where she received two patents and advising technology companies as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Sarita has a passion for education and the public sector. Under the Obama administration, she served as a White House Fellow and Acting Branch Chief of the Small Business Administration’s Microloan program. During Mayor Bloomberg’s second term, she ran the Strategy and Policy division for New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Sarita received a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard College and her M.B.A. from Oxford University’s Said Business School.

Michael Turbé

Director of Engineering

Michael is Embark’s Director of Engineering, responsible for day to day leadership of the development team. He focuses on architecture, performance, code quality, and scalability.

Over the last 17 years, Michael has led teams of developers through the full software development cycle in the legal, financial services, energy, and educational technology fields. Michael was a Vice President of Equities at fintech firm Markit in the years prior to its 2014 IPO. Michael has spent the last several years as a consultant, learning the value of continuous learning. In his spare time, Michael is also an accomplished music blogger; his writing was published in Best Music Writing 2011.

Michael has a BA in Digital Media from Fordham University and a MS in Computer Science from Pace University.

Tabitha Kaiser

Operations Director

Tabitha Kaiser is Embark’s Operations Director. In this role, she leads the team that builds and configures applications to meet our clients’ needs. Her primary focus is ensuring that clients are happy and that their Embark solution saves them time and supports their preferred workflow. Tabitha shares client requests with our technology team to inform our product roadmap.

Prior to joining Embark, Tabitha worked in Admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln managing the process of evaluation and enrollment. There she helped her team streamline processes to save hundreds of hours and better serve prospective students. She is passionate about bringing technology and people together. She also dedicates time to teaching the next generation of Product Managers at General Assembly, a New York-based development bootcamp.

Tabitha holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.



Software and Data Science Engineer

Adam Freilich is a Software and Data Science Engineer at Embark. One of Adam's larger projects has been creating personalized financial recommendations for students and families using Embark’s College Cents service.

Before joining Embark, Adam was completing Computational Learning Theory research at Columbia University. He was also a teaching assistant for graduate coursework.

Outside of work, Adam spends time cooking and fermenting vegetables and playing the acoustic guitar. Adam is also interested in computer graphics and non-photorealistic rendering, through which software can be used to create painting styles such as watercolor.

Adam received a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. in Computer Science at Columbia University.


Software Engineering Intern

Charvi is excited to be a Software Engineering Intern with Embark. In this role, her main project has been internationalization of Embark Campus for the Asia region.

Outside of Embark, Charvi is a rising junior at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During her freshman year, as a research assistant with MIT's Teaching Systems Lab, she designed segments of a teacher-training simulation. During the winter of her sophomore year, she co-developed an internal tool for a Boston-based AI education technology startup.

Charvi has grown up in four countries and enjoys roaming the outdoors while birdwatching. At MIT, she explored several rivers while coxing boats with the women’s varsity crew team during her freshman year. She has been a teaching fellow with MIT’s environmental first-year learning community Terrascope.

Charvi is studying towards a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT in 2021 with a concentration in Comparative Media Studies.

Partnerships and Implementation Lead

Devyn Gardner serves as Embark's Partnerships and Implementation Lead. She works closely with Embark's partner organizations and helps Embark’s clients map out their online admissions solutions.

Prior to Embark, Devyn worked at Minnesota Life College, a not-for profit vocational program for young adults with ASD or other learning differences. Additionally, she has worked in U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's office where she acted as a liaison between constituents and government agencies in resolving matters involving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and Immigration.

Originally from Minnesota, Devyn loves spending time outdoors, preferably on a golf course or by a lake.

Devyn received a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College.


Software Engineer

Bumsoo Kim joined Embark as a Software Engineer in 2019. In this role, he adds features to Embark, with an initial focus on internationalizing the product for regional markets.

Before Embark, Bumsoo completed 1000+ hours of software development curriculum at App Academy. In college, he completed research at the NYU DNA Nanotechnology Lab. Bumsoo has founded and moderated a public internet forum that aims to foster evidence-based discussions about politics and current events.

Outside of work, Bumsoo enjoys browsing contemporary art pieces at the Museum of Art and Design and other local museums. He also volunteers as a Korean translator on Election Day in New York City.

Bumsoo received a B.A. in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics from New York University.
